Think about what you have read so far in your nonfiction book. How do ideas there connect with something else you have read about, something you have experienced in your life, something that is occurring now in our world, or something that has occurred in the past in our world? You need to avoid "group think" when you post your comment. You all have had different life experiences, so you should be able to come up with your own original idea and not simply rehash the first commenter's thoughts. You must post at least one comment consisting of a well-organized paragraph or more. Use specific details to back up your opinion. You do not need to use direct quotations unless you choose to. Neither do you need to reply to others' comments, but feel free to do so. Due Wednesday, December 19 by the end of the day. In the book, the main idea of Heaven and believing in the hily spirit reminds of my life and when people pass away. This is because when people pass it is normal for us to mourn and be upset that they are no longer with us. But that is not true for God had made other plans. The books speak through a non-believer's eyes and portrays that he sees Heaven. This helps in the real world because although we are left with their lifeless body their soul has reached home. This gives us the sense to rejoice life and know that they are in a better place now. I feel this connection between life and the book really strengthens the knowledge of the next life.

In the book, the experiences in Heaven remind me of the story Heaven is For Real by Todd Burpo. Both books describe the main characters experiences while in Heaven. The two main characters share how stunning and beautiful Heaven was while they were there. After reading both stories I am able to connect to my own experiences because I was taught that Heaven is full of breathtaking sights unlike those on Earth. With the two stories many similarities it helps to strengthen my belief of the Heaven that is waiting. I think that with there being another story very similar to Proof of Heaven gives a greater example of what is waiting ahead and shows us there is nothing to fear.

This book is reminding me of the book and movie "Heaven Is For Real." Like Eben goes to heaven, a four year old boy does too. Colton undergoes surgery and talks about his experiences. When Colton starts talking about Jesus and heaven, his family knows what happened to him while he was in surgery. Eben also starts to talk about God and the way he portrays us. Another connection between the two are Colton sees his sister that his mom miscarried. He also talks to his passed grandfather. Eben also describes how he sees a girl in a field of butterflies.

In this book, the idea of learning something new and opening your mind up to new things is expressed dramatically. This reminds me of in my life at school and at home. When I learn something new, such as in school, it will take me time to essentially undo what my brain has previously thought and teach myself something new. In the book, Eben, the neurosurgeon, doesn't necessarily know what goes on in comas. He believes that because you have zero consciousness in a coma, it is impossible to experience any sort of afterlife. Once Eben comes out of his coma however, he is able to open his mind up and re-discover what truly happens in a coma and tell it through his book, "The Proof of Heaven".

From what I have read in Proof of Heaven, Eben's near-death experience can relate to the idea of growing up. Because of his profession, Eben knows everything about the brain. He can diagnose and treat others who have major brain conditions. Due to this knowledge and the rarity of the diagnostic, nobody ever would have expected anything like E. coli bacterial meningitis to run through him. Eben was pretty much prepared for anything life threw his way, yet he still experienced the unexpected. As a child, people know life will get harder in future years, but they still feel prepared for anything thrown at them. Education is a good example of this because teachers always try to prepare the students for what's to come in life as they get older. However, I have learned that it doesn't always work that way. A few years ago, I had a teacher who never matched her tests up with the study guides given to us. My peers and I would do all the work necessary and felt confident that we would pass. With all of our knowledge, none of us expected the test to be so hard. Another example would be watching other people grow up. There were always those kids in elementary school that everyone expected to do amazing in life, but as they got older they lost interest in trying, throwing their potential away. All of these events have to do with major plot twists.

Eben's experience in Proof Of Heaven Is similar to the experience that my friends sister went though. She was perfectly healthy just like Eben was. Eben did not have many symptoms before he found out what was wrong. My friends sister had a seizure before they found out she had a brain tumor and that was the fist warning sign that something was wrong. They both has such sudden and serious health conditions and they both were having problems with their brain.

In the book, I found that Eben's family's journey of mourning him before he was technically dead to one that I had with my grandma this summer. In late August, a couple of days before my birthday, my dad told me that my grandma was in the hospital because she collapsed and they believed she had a stroke. My family and I were very upset by this and it was really hard for us. In the end, it turned out she took a fall for a different medical reason, but it still shook us up and really made us appreciate her and our lives. I connect this with Eden's story because I believe that my family and his family felt very similarly when we both thought that our family member was dying. Knowing that he lives to tell this story, I can also relate the future experience of his family to mine after we both found out our relative was okay.

In the book I have noticed some similarities to a story i read called "Why being a Scientist Has Strengthened My Belief In God.'' In the story the author discusses how she has grown up as a firm believer in god and the after life. She explains how her leanings in the scientific field of medicine has strengthened her belief in god, rather that deterred it.
