While Eben was in heaven during his comma, he learned many life lessons and felt emotions he had never experienced on Earth before. Eben says what he experienced is hard to put into words because it was expressed wordlessly in heaven. He says he learned, "You are loved and cherished. You have nothing to fear. There is nothing you can do wrong" (Alexander 71). This quote is so significant because it is what he realized in heaven summed up. I believe when he felt these emotions, it was the start of him thinking he should come back to Earth. Eben heard what he needed to hear in heaven so he could come back to the real world to comfort and love his family.

Through the beginning of Eben's journey he is secluded a space of darkness where he is present but in no form of human. A distant light opens from the darkness and this is when the emotion and reality hit Eben. He exclaims this feeling when he repeats, "...I was being born. Not reborn, or born again. Just...born" (Alexander 38). Here he speaks through his recalled memory to emphasize exactly what he had felt. This quote speaks to me as well concluding that Heaven is life. Earth is a shell that we break out of as we die. We are here to learn and sin but are to also spread God's message before we reach him. This quote really emphasizes the life after our time on earth and the feeling it expresses.

Eben's experiences during his coma brought him to many realizations that are very eye opening. He used imagery to point out things to us that only he would be capable of truly feeling. One of my favorites is when he stated, "Imagine how limited our view of the universe would be if we never saw the star-spangled nighttime sky" (Alexander 72). He then goes on to say how we only know the things we allow ourselves to know. This quote stood out to me due to it's heavy imagery and personal connection to every reader.

During the story, many of the things that Eben learned brought knowledge and wisdom. He learned many important things that he should apply to his life. One of the most important things he learned was, "Laughter and irony are at heart reminders that we are not prisoners in this world, but voyagers through it," (Alexander 157). This was my favorite quote because some people just go through life without finding a journey and having fun along the way, and Eben was able to realize how important it was to actually live life.

We live in a complicated world were bad things are always happening. Eben was perfectly fine and then he suddenly went into a coma. Throughout his journey he chose to stay positive. He almost lost his life, but he also had an amazing experience with heaven. Eben said "Horrible and all-powerful as evil sometimes seemed to be in a world like ours, in the larger picture love was overwhelmingly dominant, and it would ultimately be triumphant" (Alexander 48). As bad as everything may seem, love always wins. Eben did not let the evil world take him over. He found love in his new religion and the love won.

There is no way to edit my post and I made a spelling mistake. In the first line I meant to say "where" instead of "were".

While trying to explain what he went through while in his coma and in heaven, Eben remembered what the girl on the butterfly wing had told him: that he was loved and cherished, there is nothing to fear, and that he could do no wrong. Eben then summed it up even further by stating, "[I]f I had to boil it down further, to just one word, it would (of course) be, simply: Love. Love is, without a doubt, the basis of everything" (Alexander 71). This quote is so powerful and important to me because Eben is taking his entire expansive experience that he felt lasted for an eternity and melting it down into one word. The quote truly shows what is most important to him in both his life and death.

In life, there will always be a contradiction between faith and science. Eben gets caught in this due to being a neurosurgeon. "There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true" (Alexander 190). In the past, he believed that God was responsible for all of the beautiful creations on Earth and the miracles within it. however, he began to study science and his views changed quite a bit because this theory has plentiful evidence to back it up. Some might call it reality, but what he experienced during his coma was so much more than that. It forced Eben to be open-minded and consider every possible scenario. People can't just focus in on one thing. If they do, they could miss an entire world of new possibilities.

The book, Proof of Heaven, taught important moral lessons to Eben, which are then transferred to the reader. A favorite quote of mine that outlined one of the moral lessons was, " Love is, without a doubt, the basis of everything. Not some abstract, hard-to-fathom kind of love... the kind of love we feel when we look at out spouse, children, or animals" (71), This quote teaches Eben and the reader the important lesson that love is extremely powerful and what makes the world operate. Without the purest form of love that we have with our families, joy can not be brought into our lives and conflict is what we must deal with. The moral lesson overall is aimed to teach that love is the most powerful emotion that runs the world and our feelings.

The book Proof of Heaven is an interesting book that provides a new perspective on the relationship between faith and fact. The book is best represented in the quote "Before my experience beyond, I was generally aware of these scientific ideas, but they where distant and remote. But when I left my physical body behind, I experienced these facts directly" (Alexander 151). This quote wraps up the main idea of the book. It shows that even though medicine is based off of scientific fact, your experiences in faith can bring you closer to your reality.
