Think about what you have read so far in your nonfiction book. How do ideas there connect with something else you have read about, something you have experienced in your life, something that is occurring now in our world, or something that has occurred in the past in our world? You need to avoid "group think" when you post your comment. You all have had different life experiences, so you should be able to come up with your own original idea and not simply rehash the first commenter's thoughts. You must post at least one comment consisting of a well-organized paragraph or more. Use specific details to back up your opinion. You do not need to use direct quotations unless you choose to. Neither do you need to reply to others' comments, but feel free to do so. Due Wednesday, December 19 by the end of the day. If you're having trouble finding a way to begin, consider one of the following sentence starters:

In the book, the Holocaust and Amon Goeth reminds me of the school shootings in the last few years. The victims are innocent and do not deserve to be punished. Instead, the suspects should be punished for their wrongdoing. Amon Goeth was a Nazi commandant of the Krakow-Plaszow concentration camp. He sent thousands of innocent people to their deaths every day. The people did not do anything of harm to the Germans. In the current time period, school shooters murder dozens of people for no reason. I think that the type people who commit these crimes have no empathy for the people they are hurting.

In the book, figuring out that you have a Nazi past reminds me of a kid figuring out they are adopted because they uncover something that makes them lose trust in other people. When Jennifer figures out that she has a Nazi past, she loses trust in her Mother and tries to tear down the web of lies. This is how a child who recently found out that they are adopted would react. They would lose trust in their adoptive parents and try to tear down the web of lies that the parents put up.

In the book, the hidden evil in Amon Geoth reminds me of a Anakin Skywalker in a way because they both had charming features and were polite, but had secret evils within them. Amon Geoth had polite table manners, was leadership material, had a "normal" home, was athletic, and had respect towards most women. Like Goeth, Anakin Skywalker was respectful to his wife, respected his superiors, and fought for the better good until he turned to the dark side. Both had an evil that lurked inside of them including the mass murder of innocent people. Amon Goeth had killed more than 10,000 people just because he had the power to. Anakin Skywalker similarly killed a mass number of people just to cause harm and death. They both had killed people ruthlessly and tortured a countless number of people that had done nothing wrong. They had an evil that could not be stopped until they were dead, which was the result of both mass killers.

In the book, the vile side of Amon Geoth reminds me of Harvey Dent because they both act well mannered but they truly are evil on the inside. Harvey Dent started off as a criminal attorney and a very polite person until one day he snapped and released all the rage and evil inside of him. Amon Geoth is the same way because he was always respectful and always polite until the evil inside him was released and he became a very terrible person. Amon Geoth also reminds me of Harvey Dent because of the torture and suffering they brought to innocent people. Although Harvey did not kill 10,000 people, he still killed tons of innocent people because he was an awful person. Amon Geoth and Harvey Dent both had a ragging fire of evil in them that caused them to be horrible people.

In the book, Amon Goeth's ruthless killings inmates at the Krakow-Plaszow reminds me of when Atticus tells Jem and Scout not to kill mockingbirds in To Kill A Mockingbird. The people at the concentration camp were completely innocent, similar to the mockingbirds. Instead of leaving the innocent Jews alone, Amon Goeth and other Nazis rounded them up, forced them to work, and eventually killed them.
