Nonfiction authors generally have a purpose for writing: To inform, to entertain, to persuade, or a combination of the three. Consider the purpose of your book. For your comment on this post, include a quotation (with the page number, as always) that shows the author's purpose for writing. Then, in a few sentences, explain what the quote reveals about purpose. Comment by Friday, 12/7.

“Schindler crossed limits that he didn’t need to cross.” Still, in the end she finds for Schindler: “Amon Goeth and Oskar Schindler, they both had power. One used it to kill, the other to save lives. Their example shows that everyone has a choice.”

"It is very easy to demonize the prominent Nazis, to treat them like animals in a zoo: Look, aren't they cruel and perverted?" (39). This quote is used to inform the reader. It shows that the people think that most or all Nazis are all evil, just like Amon Goeth. They did not all kill hundreds or thousands of innocent people. Many people joined the Nazi party because of peer pressure. Even then, "The majority of Germans never even joined the Nazi party" (39). People assume that all Germans are Nazis even though only 7 percent of the population supported the Nazi party.

"These people did not appear to have any sense of remorse or shame; they and their fellow Germans continued to live their lives as if the Third Reich had never existed." (Teege 25). This quote shows that the Nazis had little to no emotion to the terrible things they did to the innocent citizens of Europe. The Germans acted like the war had never happened because they had either been ashamed or had no regret what they did. I think this symbolizes that Jennifer Teege is eventually going to see that she has to be tough minded, like the Germans were, and forget about her ancestry.

(Adding on to previous comment) I think that since this could be a sense of foreshadowing towards the emotions of Teege, that this translates to real life by stating that sometimes you have to be tough minded to get through hard times.

“It's easy to hate Amon Goeth. If the Germans and their allies can turn into murderers, then we, too, can become murderers. I hope that my sons will always remember that. I hope that they will always see the Palestinians as human beings, not as enemies” (Teege 206). This quote shows that whatever happens to the Germans can happen to them too. They need to view Palestinians as human beings and not just as enemies of war.

Your comments should have said something about purpose.
